Yick Chun BERNARD TO
LICENSED MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPIST
As a compassionate and adept psychotherapist, Bernard enjoys working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. He has experience working with individuals, children, adolescents and families within various clinical settings: within the community, school-based, Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient clinic. With an integrative approach, he incorporates techniques and interventions from cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral, play, solution-focused, and strategic-family therapy.
Bernard has addressed a full range of mental health issues/psychological disorders, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, aggression, disruptive behavior, oppositional defiant disorder, addictions, acculturation stress, and family/ intimate relationship conflicts. He has co-facilitated educational and support groups for school-aged children and parents. In therapy, Bernard believes that there is no “one-size-fits-all”. He is eager to develop culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate, and trauma-informed treatment plans, in order to best serve his clients’ mental and social-emotional needs.
Bernard was born and raised in Hong Kong, and is trilingual in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Bernard obtained his Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University and Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego.
