Laura provides individual, couples, family, and group therapy. Laura provides a warm, nonjudgmental, and safe space for individuals to express their concerns and thoughts. She believes that therapy can be a powerful tool for people to gain insight on life’s many challenges and to learn healthy ways of coping. Laura earned her Master’s degree in Social Work with an emphasis in Children, Youth and Families from the University of Southern California. She obtained her Pupil Personnel Service Credential specializing in School Social Work and Child Welfare and Attendance. Having been trained in the school setting and public sector, Laura takes a collaborative approach in nature and often includes families in the treatment planning process, especially when working with children and adolescents. Her work and interdisciplinary practice with psychiatrists, physicians, educators, officers, and speech therapists has taught Laura that in order to address an individual’s mental health concerns, one has to look at the person as a “whole,” (body and mind) and their relationship with identified support systems and community.

Laura uses a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models, based on the individual’s need, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, play therapy, strength-based therapy, and family systems theory. It is essential for Laura to customize the therapeutic environment to meet the needs of each individual. To achieve this goal, she often incorporates art, multimedia tools, journaling, games, book recommendations and mindfulness techniques to ensure that the individual is able to fully benefit from each session, based on their needs and learning styles.

Laura is a native Mandarin (Chinese) speaker and has worked extensively with culturally diverse clients. Her experiences include, but are not limited to, working with people who struggle with anxiety, depression, substance use, self-esteem, parent-child conflicts, anger, trauma, victims of crime, peer relationships, grief and loss, family issues, communication issues, prenatal and postnatal issues, and life stressors.
